The first LIFE HEALTHY FOREST’s workshop, “Areas of expertise and tools for detection and prevention of forest decline”, will be held in Arkaute on 7-8 November 2016. The two-day event, organised by project leader NEIKER, will count with the participation of members of the project consortium together with several international experts of forest health. The workshop is addressed to representatives and stakeholders from the forest and the truffle sector and also open to the general public. Presentations will be delivered in Spanish and English and will deal with forest diseases, biocontrol, molecular analysis, Lidar information applied to forest ecosystems, among others. The full programme and the free registration to the Workshop is available here.

LIFE HEALTHY FOREST, co-financed by the LIFE Programme, will develop an innovative and unique integrated system to the early detection and evaluation of the impact of forest decline through the combination of expertise areas, encompassing from molecular to remote sensing techniques. This system will be implemented at regional scale across the three provinces of the Basque Country, as knowledge base for the EU Forest and Biodiversity policy.

LIFE HEALTHY FOREST is one of the 96 projects selected by the LIFE programme out of the 1117 applications received by the European Commission within the Environment & Resource Efficiency Subprogramme in the first call for projects for the period 2014-2020.

LIFE HEALTHY FOREST project (LIFE14 ENV/ES/000179) aims to design, apply and monitor advanced methodologies to achieve more sustainable forestry management at EU level, especially to prevent forest decline caused by invasive and pathogenic agents, taking into account both environmental and socio-economic impacts.

LIFE HEALTHY FOREST, with a duration of 42 months, is coordinated by NEIKER-Instituto Vasco de Investigación y Desarrollo Agrario and has three associated beneficiaries: Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, Fundación Hazi Fundazioa and Desarrollo de Estrategias Exteriores, S.A.
